related projects

RTP/I was started because we felt the need to make several of the projects of our department "inter-operable". In detail these projects are:

digital lecture board

The Digital Lecture Board (dlb) is a synchronous teaching and learning tool for remote instruction. It is basically an enhanced whiteboard tailored to the specific needs of teaching and learning. Currently the dlb uses a custom application-level protocol, which will be replaced by RTP/I.

Educational Multimedia Library

The aim of this project is the development of a multimedia library which provides effective mechanisms for storage and retrieval of different media types. Besides audio and video, the educational multimedia library also includes interactive media such as dlb presentations. In order to facilitate the recording of arbitrary interactive media a generic RTP/I recorder is developed within this project.

Homelearning

One part of this project deal with the development of remote-controlled java animations for presentations in a live lecture. RTP/I will be used as application-level protocol for these distributed animations.

MBone VCR on Demand Service

The MBone VCR on Demand project deals with the problem of interactive remote recording and playback of MBone sessions consisting of audio and video streams. The generic recording service mentioned above will extend the results of this project.

TeCo3D

TeCo3D is a joint project of the Mannheim University and the Siemens Telecooperation Center in Saarbrücken, which aims at the development of 3D telecooperation applications for cooperation unaware VRML models. RTP/I will be the application-level protocol for TeCo3D.
