How to install the MBone tools
Wolfgang Effelsberg, University of Mannheim

If you wish to participate in the Euroseminars organized by Working Group 3 of COST 264 you need to have access to the MBone, the multicast backbone of the Internet. You also need to install the MBone tools, the videoconferencing software we use to transmit the seminars.

University College London (UCL) maintains a wonderful Web page pointing to the various versions of the tools for different operating systems. We recommend that you install the most recent versions, as described at

http://www-mice.cs.ucl.ac.uk/multimedia/software/

For participation in the COST264 Euroseminars you will need

  • vic
  • rat
  • wb
  • sdr

After installing the tools you should try them out locally, i.e., between two machines in your lab. When you start sdr, the session directory, you should see a listing of many public sessions, and you can use any of them to test vic, rat and wb as a receiver. For additional testing with remote partners, feel free to contact another lab participating in COST Action 264; most labs have the MBone tools installed.
